QPR (Question Persuade Refer) Community Presentation
Hinsdale School
Wednesday, November 16 at 3:30 - Open to the community.
QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer, the 3 simple
steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide.
Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver
help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in
QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide
crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to
help. Each year thousands of Americans, like you, are saying; "Yes", to saving the life of a friend, colleague, sibling, or
neighbor
In QPR, you are educated about the known warning signs of
a suicide crisis: expressions of hopelessness, depression,
giving away prized possessions, talking of suicide, securing
lethal means, and then taught how to respond.
Presented by Frederick Lee from Roosevelt County. After his son
Michael (age 13) committed suicide on July 27th, 2018, Frederick took
on the task of trying to start a suicide prevention program in
Northeastern MT, after learning that Montana is the number 1 worst
state for suicide in the nation. In fall of 2018 he became certified as a
QPR- Question, Persuade and Refer Instructor and has been going
around NE Montana trying to spread the word on Suicide Prevention,
because he does not want another family to have to go through what
he did.
